The Connecticut River Salmon Association (CRSA) is a nonstock, nonprofit Connecticut corporation. Our mission is to support the effort to restore Atlantic salmon in the Connecticut River basin, a joint undertaking by the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut, together with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service of the National Marine Fisheries Service, pursuant to an act of Congress in 1983. The Connecticut River Atlantic Salmon Commission, consisting of the chief fisheries official from each of the participating states and federal agencies, and a citizen appointed by the governor of each participating state, oversees this program. Current CRSA president Robert Jones serves as a member of this Commission, which is staffed by a technical committee consisting of senior fisheries biologists from the participating states and federal agencies.

CRSA operates its School Program in many Connecticut public schools, providing a valuable scientific and environmental learning project enjoyed by children from kindergarten through high school. Students participate actively in all phases of the restoration stocking program, from rearing salmon eggs in the classroom to stocking rivers. CRSA provides guidance and teacher education, technical assistance and materials, and vital links to the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Restoration Program. The CRSA Grants Program is a valuable adjunct to the restoration effort. With the help of CRSA grants funds, DEP Senior Fisheries Biologist Steve Gephard and Spanish colleagues were able to study salmon behavior in Spanish rivers comparable in latitude to the Connecticut River. Other examples of CRSA grants include funds for radio tags for Westfield River salmon and the installation of key equipment for fish passage at Rainbow Dam.

CRSA is governed by four executive officers (the president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary) and an elected board of directors.

CRSA is a nonprofit Connecticut corporation, exempt from federal income taxes under Section (501)(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Gifts to CRSA are deductible by the donor to the extent permitted by law. Contact us for more information about donating to CRSA.
