Pictures from the Salmon Release Fieldtrip to the Salmon Brook at Holcomb Farms in East Granby CT on May 9-10, 2001

On May 9-10, teams of students from Timothy Edwards Middle School released a total of 622 salmon fry into the Salmon River. The Blue and Green teams released 350 on May 9, and the Maroon and Red teams released 272 on May 10. In conjunction with the release at the brook, students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and lessons by the farm's expert staff about the stream's aquatic invertebrates. Students were able to catch organisms for an up-close and personal look at specific adaptations which enable them to live successfully in this habitat. Temperature, dissolved oxygen and nitrate tests were also done.

Students were part of an indoor create-your-own-critter activity. The exceptional weather added to the enjoyment of a third activity, a hike in the woods where students completed a scavenger hunt based on flora and fauna of the area.
