Brad Burns, CRSA 2026 President’s Award Recipient

Brad Burns has avidly pursued striped bass, brook trout, Atlantic salmon and a host of other game fish for over 60 years.  Brad was at the forefront of the 1990s fly fishing for striped bass wave and wrote the L.L. Bean Fly Fishing for Striped Bass Handbook, and along with John Cole, co-authored Fly Fishing for Saltwater’s Finest, and recapped his years in the salt with Black Spruce Stream and Maine to Montauk.  He was also a masthead writer for Fly Fishing In Salt Waters magazine.

In 2002 Brad turned his attention to Miramichi Atlantic salmon fishing.  He later wrote Closing the Season and On the Cains, the latter being a book that many people think is historically valuable to the Miramichi River system.

Fishery conservation has been a big part of Brad’s life.  He is one of the founders of Stripers Forever, spent years on the board of the Coastal Conservation Association, and is currently the president of the Miramichi Salmon Association U.S.

Brad has fished from Ungava to Russia for Atlantic salmon, but spends most of his fishing time on New Brunswick’s Miramichi and Cains Rivers.
